Tristan Perry, PhD, was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. She was brought-up in a loving home within a traditional family consisting of a mother, father, sister, and pets. After earning her four-year degree in nursing, she married Will Perry and moved to Kentucky where he worked as a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. While in Kentucky, Tristan worked as an RN and earned her Masters Degree in Community Health Nursing from the University of Kentucky. Her husband then got a job transfer within the government to Blacksburg, Virginia, which placed them closer to family. They continue to live in the area, where Tristan has worked in gerontology nursing and teaching nursing at the collegiate level after earning a PhD at Virginia Tech. Will and Tristan have two furry poodle children—Nutmeg and Mocha. Interestingly, Tristan’s first children’s chapter-book was released December 11, 2006. The book is entitled Furry Tails: The Adventures of Cinnamon Persimmon. The author is a recruited guest speaker at women’s conferences, churches, universities, libraries, and schools. Interestingly, the world’s most widely read dog magazine, Dog Fancy, featured Furry Tails as a “Paw Turner” in the September 2007 issue! Tristan was interviewed in February 2006 about her book by the most watched television station in the Roanoke Valley, WDBJ 7. On March 13 th, 2007, WDBJ also interviewed her about the health benefits pet visits offer elderly residents living in nursing homes. The author continues to practice nursing at a long-term care facility in southwest Virginia. Her teaching experience, having interviewed countless patients in her nursing career, having served as church pianist for years, and having successfully defended a dissertation gives Tristan the ability and confidence required for successful interviews and speaking engagements. Her toy poodles, Nutmeg and Mocha, sometimes accompany the author to book promotions at schools, libraries, bookstores and other events. Dr. Perry is registered in the Virginia Arts Directory and is a former member of the Blue Ridge Pens writer’s group. Her work is endorsed online by the Writer’s Edge professional service.
